9th Fire (3/18/16)

Tarok, Second-Week, Fifth-day, the Now-Year

After defeating the witch and her cultists, Kaarl tends to the wounded and unconscious while SlakeThirst and Nobro climb to the highest platform of the Raventop Retreat, to find the two abducted daughters of the late Toli Bulberry. He finds them suspended in cages over the forest floor, along with a well-groomed satyr named Sperki, who begs for release. The pair then finds Skrii'la's personal bedchamber, in which two human corpses are bound to a wall, and in which there are torture instruments, a hardened clay phallus, and several hooked poles which can probably pull in the cages. Slakethirst does so, freeing the girls and the satyr, and then he spends some time blasting the cages so they plummet to the forest floor, crushed. They rejoin the group, and rest, but not before prodding Sperki for some info, and the satyr, who claims to be a roving merchant in these parts, lets fly that Skrii'la had an oftentimes lover named Broodok. The party sets watch overnight on the lower platform, and an owlbear and giant boar wander by, the latter frightened off by an eldritch blast during SlakeThirst's watch.

Tarok, Second-Week, Sixth-day, the Now-Year

The PCs decide to clean up the place for prospective use as a future hideout, and thus spend the day doing some 'demolition'. Kaarl even sends the witch's bed down to the forest floor, and they clean out the various arcane labs, keeping the tablet-tomes they found but ruining anything else that might be a mystic threat. Un'krug takes the spears from the ritual circle, which is eerily similar to a Duthar holy symbol, and Kaarl uses detect magic several times to scan the premises for anything they might have missed. He finds a pommel sticking out of one of the saplings in the storage area, and it's connected to an enchanted stone short sword. Later on, they build a bonfire below the Retreat and burn the objects and corpses they disposed of. Kaarl speaks with an owl, but it's too stupid to be of use. to k

Tarok, Second-Week, Seventh-day, the Now-Year

Our heroes travel back to Dregroot, to report in to Dobbil and see if they can trade off some of their newfound wares. As they enter, they encounter chief Zlazash traveling with a group of his bodyguards and several chained women, but aside from propositioning Sperki the satyr to sleep with his harem, he does not seem to recognize Cynjak. They move on, unscathed, to Dobbil's, and report to him on their success in freeing the girls and defeating the witch and cultists. He requests that Slagmoor serve as a permament attache between these upstarts and his own information network, but the dwarf flat out resigns, deciding that he likes the taste of adventure once more. Instead, Sperki decides to stay on with the gnome as a potential business partner, since the two share a love of peddling wares. The PCs soon depart altogether from Dregroot to follow the Whipwater south again, leaving behind the boat they stowed on Bone Lake. Apart from being randomly assaulted by a mobile tree, which almost crushes SlakeThirst to death before it's taken down, they have an uneventful trip until setting up camp.

Tarok, Second-Week, Eighth-day, the Now-Year

The PCs arrive at Briar's Edge and immediately seek out Eagle Klah, who offers to take in the girls and exonerates the half-orc brothers from their social exile. After torching the old Bulberry farm for its wicked taint, most of the party heads over to The Plain's End for meal and drink, while Cynjak remains behind at Eagle's compound. Whilst they sleep out under the plains, Slagmoor for the first time seeing so many stars in a great while, Cynjak is quietly propositioned for marriage by the chieftain once the girls are asleep. She says she'll have to think on it until the following day.

Tarok, Second-Week, Ninth-day, the Now-Year

The party meets with the girls' surviving relatives at Eagle Klah's hold, to ensure they lack the taint of suspicion that Toli did, and then reluctantly release them to their care, provided Klah will carefully watch over them. Cynjak speaks further with Eagle about the tensions his proposition would cause with neighboring Dregroot, and about the PCs' suspicions of the man Broodok, a devotee of Duthar who is the bodyguard to Awdre, First Wife of Duthar. Klah tells them they should report this to the Grand Mask at Court-of-Crows, and so they travel back to their base of operations. They make some trades on the market, and with the sage Ull, and prepare to make an appointment with the elusive Elder of the Court.
